Simple burr-hole craniostomy and closed-system drainage in the treatment of chronic subdural hematomas

Abstract
A simple method of a burr hole craniostomy and closed-system drainage using a double empty blood bag for evacuation of chronic subdural hematoma is presented. The technique was used in 17 patients between March and October 1982.
Postoperative cerebral reexpansion after this technique was studied on serial computed tomography (CT) scan by measurement of reduction in diameter of the subdural space. Most of the patients shows remarkable clinical improvement during the first 2 days following the procedure.
This method is considered the definite primary treatment of chronic subdural hematoma.
